The gaming world is gearing up for several much-anticipated games in 2021. 2020 was, at best, an okay-ish year for new game launches. One notable let-down was Cyberpunk 2077, which generated high expectations, but had several issues with the console version of the game, leading to a legal tussle and leaving behind a sour aftertaste. There are also talks of lowering expectations for future games after Cyberpunk 2077 failed to please all.

2021’s game list for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and PC versions is a promising one. It’s true that the pandemic has delayed several notable game releases; however, there is hope with the launch of new consoles like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series XIS, and we can expect some new games to come with them. Let’s look at some of the most awaited games of 2021.

Hitman 3

By the time you read this, Hitman 3 would have been already launched. Hitman 3 is the final title in the trilogy. It follows Agent 47 through six new locations for an adventure full of stealth and intrigue. The new version will allow players to import progress from the first two games.

Halo Infinite

There is a possibility that this game might not launch this year, but players are hopeful, and developers are listening, by all accounts. The game has already faced its fair share of roadblocks, with multiple directors coming in and leaving, and the unflattering 2020 gameplay demographics are still fresh in everyone’s mind. The fans are hoping for a major reboot for this one.

Fry Cry 6

Every fan is excited about the casting of Giancarlo Esposito. He will play the big villain on the Caribbean island of Yara. It will be the same freedom fighter narrative with guerrilla warfare. With Esposito’s entry, there could be a strong story base.

Elden Ring

The new version of Elden Ring features a match made in heaven: Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki’s dark and thrilling hidden world meets A Song of Ice and Fire author George R R Martin’s tales. There is no official announcement yet, but an insider claims the game is ready and could be launched in mid- or late-2021.

Resident Evil: Village

The iconic Resident Evil needs no introduction, really; this horror set-up has generated quite a fan following. Resident Evil: Village is the eighth mainline game, and will pick up where Resident Evil 7 left off.

Deathloop

Deathloop is a single-player or multiplayer shooting game developed by Arkane Studios. This time, master assassin Colt is stranded on Blackreef Island, stuck in a time loop. Colt has to eliminate eight targets in a 24-hour loop. Otherwise, he loses his memory of the previous days, and everything restarts – but just for him, not for the others. The interesting premise of the game has everyone eagerly waiting for the launch in May.

Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West will be exclusive to PS4 and PS5. This time, Aloy travels further west, to the ruins of San Francisco and other real-world places on the western border of the USA. The premise of the new version is said to be as interesting and eye-catching as the previous one.

Gotham Knights

With Batman dead, the story will now focus on Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing and Red Hood, making the game a multiplayer version. The bold move of killing Batman could be a huge risk for the developers, and if the version becomes a hit, it could offer huge payoffs.

Hogwarts Legacy

The Harry Potter game is finally releasing. Developed by Avalanche Software and published by Portkey Games, Hogwarts Legacy is the open-world Harry Potter RPG that fans have waited for a decade now.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

This year is the 35th anniversary of Zelda, sparking hopes for a new release of the game. However, Nintendo has not yet issued any official statement on the matter.

God of War PS5

God of War: Ragnarok announced a sequel in 2021. But so far, few details have been forthcoming. All we know is that the sequel will plunge Kratos deeper into Norse mythology.

There are many other new titles coming out in 2021, like Back 4 Blood, Ratchet & Clank on PS5, Vampire: The Masquerade—Bloodlines 2 and more. 2020 was a bit subdued year for games, but it looks like 2021 is going to be an exciting year, with an incredibly interesting roster of titles that will certainly keep fans busy.
