Exploring Insights on Chat-GPT With IMDb's Nabh Gupta

1. Can you share your educational and career journey, highlighting your key decisions and experiences?
Starting off as a science student, I quickly realized that my passion lay beyond the realms of science. In 2005, despite the prevailing inclination towards engineering and medicine, I followed my heart and made the right decision for my studies and future career. Supported by my parents and guided by my inner calling, I embarked on a unique path. I joined GE Capital during their "Learn while you earn" program, where I completed my graduation through open schooling. This experience provided practical insights and hands-on knowledge, complementing the theoretical aspect of my studies. I also had the privilege of interacting with industry leaders during this time.
Curiosity and zest for learning are the two important tools of progress.
2. Could you elaborate on your early experiences at the "Learn while you Earn" program at GE Capital?
My journey within the "Learn while you Earn" program at GE Capital was transformative. As I progressed, I found myself assuming roles in people management, which introduced new challenges and learning opportunities. At a young age, around 23 or 24, I was entrusted with managing a team of 25 to 30 individuals after relocating to Hyderabad. This came with substantial financial rewards, but also required me to handle such earnings responsibly. It was during this time that I recognized my passion for content creation and media. This realization propelled me into various forms of media.
3. Can you provide insights into your role at Zee TV and how it impacted your career?
After pursuing a master's degree at the University of Delhi, affiliated with JNU and IIMC, my journey at Zee TV began. Although they were seeking journalists, my unique background and prior experience caught their attention. This marked a pivotal turning point as I was hired for a role intended for MBAs. At Zee TV, I served as a brand manager, expanding my horizons in the field. Television's significant presence, especially in rural areas, intrigued me. During my time at Zee, I gained insights into India's diverse market and activations in various cities, enhancing my learning experience.
4. How did your experience at Viacom influence your career path?
Transitioning to Viacom introduced me to the world of movies, offering a distinct perspective on talent management and content creation. My involvement in projects like "Gangs of Wasseypur" provided insights into marketing movies effectively. This experience highlighted the importance of timely and contextually relevant promotion. Additionally, my engagement with international releases like "Transformers" and the "Mission Impossible" series emphasized the power of social media. This period marked a significant phase in my career trajectory, as I observed the swift shift towards digital platforms, especially in the movie market.
5. What prompted your move to BookMyShow, and how did this shift impact your career?
My transition to BookMyShow was driven by curiosity about evolving ticket sales dynamics. I noticed a substantial portion of our collections was attributed to this platform. This led me to explore influencing purchase decisions on a broader scale. At BookMyShow, I developed skills in business development, persuasive content creation, and marketing knowledge application for sales. This role bridged the gap between technology and marketing, broadening my skill set.
6. Can you share your experience during your time at Amazon Prime India?
Being among the initial team members launching Prime India in 2016 was a significant experience. Handling movie releases, original shows, cricket, and South Indian content posed unique challenges. We had to manage substantial cash investments effectively to attract audiences to OTT platforms. Handling content in multiple languages and optimizing it for various devices was demanding. My time at Amazon Prime India provided insights into market dynamics and the necessity of strategic content promotion.
7. Could you provide your perspective on ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a game-changing technology with limitless potential. It can create captions and even generate social media content. Like the initial skepticism around social media, AI's role will evolve and integrate into society. Marketers can leverage ChatGPT's capabilities to enhance their strategies and optimize content creation. The technology's application extends to grading content on OTT platforms and B2B2C businesses. Encouraging education and utilization of ChatGPT can harness its tremendous power for innovation and growth.
If I'm not doing something that is going to put me on the edge and give me some level of discomfort, then I'll find something because that's when you truly learn and live. If you're not uncomfortable, you're not learning.
